This is a lovely English, late Georgian period wash-stand, c 1820-30. A lovely simple, elegant shape, this wash-stand has extremely unusual handles featuring the design of a greyhounds' head. As this was bought locally to us, this may mean that this piece has some association with The Belton House estate, as the Brownlow coat of arms features the same stylised greyhound. Not quite grand enough for the house itself - but may well have been used by a higher ranking estate worker. It has been white washed in an off-white colour at some stage. W - 94cm, D - 47cm, H - 89cm |
